Call of Duty: World at War

July 16, 2008

Call of Duty: World at War is the fifth and latest installment in the Call of Duty series. The game will be developed by Treyarch and will be published by Activision for the PS3, XBOX360, Wii, PC, and the Nintendo DS. The game is set to ship by November 2008, but the release date has not been announced.

The game will be set during World War II on both the Eastern front and the Pacific Theatre. More game play elements will be introduced in the game, most noticeably, the ability to swim in single player and multiplayer modes. Flame-throwers will also be making a return - their last appearance being in Call of Duty: United Offensive. Also, the game will give the players more ways to complete missions, rather than having only one way to go. Another series first will be cooperative multiplayer, where up to four people can play both on-line and off-line.

The game will be in a two-year development cycle, which is twice of that in Call of Duty 3. Improvents to the previous engine used in Call of Duty 4 are also going to be used - adding both lighting and better physics. Bullets also can cut through thin wood, allowing the player to use the wood to their advantage. As part of marketing for the game, McFarlane Toys will also release four action figures to coincide with the game.
