The Sims 3

July 29, 2008

The biggest selling video game in the history of the industry is about to get bigger, teenage girls the world over are salivating at the thought of playing EA Games latest incarnation of  “Virtual Doll House”, The Sims 3.  So what’s on offer in the latest version and when is it released?  Reportedly the biggest change will be to the neighbourhood structure, increasing the size of the neighbourhoods to near “Sandbox” levels, features of popular games like Grand Theft Auto.

The neighbourhoods in the Sims 3 will also be apart of the same “space” as the urban and other areas, rather than the loading screen seen in previous Sims Games all the areas will be pn the same screen and be able to scrolled to by the player.

Another inovation is that what happens outside of the home has just as much impact as what happens inside the home, where as Sims Expansions offered the “out of home” experience these were treated more as sub games, in The Sims 3 what happens outside is fully intergrated with what happens inside.

One thing that previous Sims players will instantly notice is the lack of individual meters in the form of the famillier red and green bar, instead S3 uses a system of discrete moods for fulfilling eat/sleep/pee/watch tv/repeat requirements.

EA Games have announced a tentative release date of late 2009 for a Sims 3 launch, when ever it is, the franchise’s popularity means its virtually a licence to print money for EA.
