X-Men Origins: Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The game action-hero fans have been waiting for has arrived in the form of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and despite Wolverine himself being far from a hero, this title reaches heights few other movie-to-videogame reproductions can boast.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as you would expect, puts you in the role of Wolverine - for those who do not really know much about X-Men, he is the one with the huge, razor sharp claws where us mere mortals keep our hands! You would expect things to get pretty gorey, and we are pleased to say they certainly do.

Brutal, blood thirsty games are becoming more and more common with the combination of more powerful gaming consoles and the demands of gamers being more sinister than ever before, but not necessarily in a bad way. Such demand allows developers, such as Raven Software who are behind X-Men Origins: Wolverine, to push the boundaries of the software they have at their disposal and this ultimately provides us gamers with some very, very impressive titles - with this being one of them.

The effort has clearly been put in to make X-Men Origins: Wolverine a memorable action fighter title which is something you can rarely say about games created to accompany the release of it’s far-bigger budgetted movie counterpart. The graphics are stunning, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine can be considered one of the best examples of the ability of today’s consoles. Everything on screen feels alive, despite the dark, seedy looking environments that the majority of the game takes place in.

The fighting scenes, and these are usually going on constantly, can be faulted despite looking amazing visually. The blood squirting everywhere looks as real as you would want it to, and every move you make looks effortless and the frame-rates don’t stutter at all. However the overall difficulty level is perhaps a little too easy, and when boss fights are reached you will notice a few minor glitches.

The range of attacks you can deliver on your foes begins to get repetitive after a while, but they will impress you in the beginning. Combo attacks allow you to do some serious damage to your enemies and surroundings, and not always intentionally, as your actions will effect things around you, too. If you prefer mutilations or decapitations, X-Men Origins: Wolverine will satisfy you for quite a while as there are plenty of ways for you to dispose of your opponents, many of them very satisfying.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a well rounded title with fantastic visuals, fast-paced fighting action and all the gore you could wish for and more! The apparantly rushed boss fight scenes let the game down, and it seems all too easy to kill off your enemies and far too difficulty to die yourself. This was not far off being a genre classic, but certainly makes us anticipate the next X-Men title with baited breath.
