To switch machine gun
[Pause Game] hold L and press B, A, Y, X, A, B, A.

Pause mid-game and hold L button, then press B, A, Y, X, A, B. This can be repeated.

Upgrade special weapon
Pause mid-game and hold the L button, then press A, B, X, Y, B, A, you should hear a chime indicating that either cheat worked.

Finish the secret outside course, (you race as a snail !) for a major power up which will easily defeat the end of game boss/ess in the final cellar stage.
